PLEASE SEE UPDATED SCHOOL EMERGENCY CLOSURE PROCEDURE

Emergency Closure & Severe Weather Alerts

In severe circumstances we unfortunately have to close the school on health and safety grounds. This decision is not taken lightly and usually made before students set foot on site; we do everything that we can to alert all members of the school community as quickly as is humanly possible.

The decision is always considered very carefully indeed and balances the risks to health and safety (both on site and during the journey to and from school) with the inevitable loss of learning time that takes place and the inevitable inconvenience to parents. Students can access resources from home via the following sites, BBC Bitesize, MyMaths and also Doddle.

If it snows heavily whilst we are in school we will do all we can to stay open.  However, if for Health and Safety reasons, we do need to close during the day, we will alert parents/carers using our text messaging system (please see Emergency School Closure Procedure below) as well as giving students the opportunity to use their own mobiles or the schools telephones should they need to.  There will be an area in school for students to wait in if they so wish. Please discuss with your son/daughter any arrangements in advance you might wish to make in the event of the school closing early.

School Emergency Closure Procedure

Should school need to close during the day the following procedure will be followed:

 ·         Text messages will be sent to parents informing them that school will be closed 30 minutes later

 ·         Students can use those 30 minutes to contact parents if necessary using their mobile phones. School phones will also be available for this purpose

 ·         After 30 minutes students will be released

 ·         Any students not able to go home will remain in school

 ·         Food will be available if necessary and if possible

Please can you make arrangements for such a situation and discuss these with your child so they understand.

When a decision is made we will contact the following radio stations:
