Monday 21st January 2013 - 14:00
Please find below the updated forecast from Worcestershire County Council, the Met Office, and Highways and Transport advice. As conditions are set to improve throughout the week, this will be the last daily update to be circulated unless the forecast changes towards the end of the week.
Monday : The remainder of the day is set to remain mainly dry, with only a few light snow flurries.
Tuesday : A small band of snow is forecast for the West of Worcestershire from 0600 hrs on Tuesday morning, but giving no more than 1 – 2cm in accumulations. This will move away during the morning leaving a mainly dry day.
Wednesday - Thursday : The forecast is for dry conditions and cold nights with no fresh accumulations.
Thursday evening - Friday : A further band of snow is forecast but the Met Office are expecting to downgrade this forecast as the week progresses.
Snow ploughing and gritting of the primary and secondary network will continue throughout the afternoon, particularly in North Worcestershire following the snowfall from last night. The secondary road network will be treated this afternoon from 1300 hrs, and then the primary road network from 1830 hrs once peak period traffic has subsided.
Some schools have enquired as to whether Highways can address issues on roads that are not part of the standard gritting routes but form part of access to schools. Highways resources are already stretched to ensure the primary and secondary road network are kept clear and are therefore unfortunately not able to address these requests. Each year WCC reviews its gritting plans during the "off season" and schools will be approached for comment during the Summer Term for any requested amendments to gritting routes. Please ensure you feed in to this review.
As conditions are expected to continue to improve as the week goes on, we expect that transport services will hopefully return to normal operation, subject to any change in the forecast or the reality of weather conditions we experience.
Any road closures, diversions or cancellations to transport services (both local bus and school transport) will be displayed on the County Council website (www.worcestershire.gov.uk) as a flashing alert along the top of the screen. We will endeavour to contact specific schools if there is any disruption to their transport services, in advance wherever possible.
